Picture Books in Lessons

Teachers,

Picture books make great spring boards for your lessons. Visit the library and let me help you find the perfect picture book to use in your next lesson. Check out some of our new Texas 2X2 books. One of these great books is sure to grab your students' attention and may turn a reluctant reader into a life long learner.

Make reading fun!

P.S. Comment to this post with some of your picture book lesson ideas to share with our colleagues. Thanks!

New Library Books

I just received a box of books! I am working on getting them all cataloged and ready for you to check out. These are the 2012-2013 Texas 2X2 books. I should be getting the 2013-2014 Texas 2X2s soon also. Next year I will be offering a Texas 2X2 Team for my 1st and 2nd graders. Students will be required to read 10 out of 20 of the books, test on them, and then vote for their favorite just like the older kids do with the Bluebonnet Team. I think it will be loads of fun! As soon as you can, start checking out these great new books.

Kindergarten Checking Out Library Books

I am happy to announce that our Kindergarten classes here in the Wonderful Land of Ogg are now checking out books from the library. They are learning how to properly care for library books and how to select books on their own. Now they will be pros and ready to check out books on their own in the 1st grade next year. Way to go, Kinder!

Welcome to The Book Wizard's new blog! I hope you find the information here helpful. You can find some links to websites that are useful to students and teachers. You will also find the lists for the new Bluebonnet Books and the Texas 2X2 Reading List which is geared toward the lower grades. I plan to have a Texas 2X2 team next year similar to our Bluebonnet Team so that our younger students may participate in the reading of award quality books and the voting process.

I thought I would begin by giving you my views of a book I just read: "Who Could That Be at This Hour?" by Lemony Snicket. If you are a fan of Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, then you will enjoy this book. The main character is Lemony Snicket himself at the age of 13. Children, of course, will find it humorous, a word which here means funny, that a 13 year-old boy and his peers seem to outwit the adults in the story as they attempt to solve the mystery surrounding the Bombinating Beast. The mystery is engaging and will keep you turning the pages.

The Ogg Library happens to have an autographed copy which will go on display along side a picture of me and the author (or his representative, or...Hmmm).
